counting down

I think this is what they call nesting: spending most of your day cleaning and organizing the house, getting ready for the baby, the feeling of wanting everything to be in order before he arrives….  Today I got his room all cleaned out and everything put in its place (the second didn’t take long, he doesn’t have lots of stuff).  I’ve washed and put away what clothes he does have.  I’ve made a list of things to take to the hospital for all of us.  I’ve made a list of things that we still need to get.  Tomorrow we are picking up a hand-me-down crib, I can’t wait!

Currently I’m at 33.5 weeks- only 6.5 to go!  At my 32 week appointment, he was supposedly measuring around 4.5 lbs… not too big, not too small.  We decided to have him at a small, Adventist hospital in Valle de Angeles- a small mountain community 30 min from the city.  It is very quaint and friendly, not like the big-city industrial hospitals we had previously visited.  We know the pediatrician there and I’m now seeing the OB who works there for the rest of my appointments.  The third trimester has been uneventful- backaches, heartburn, being tired, my big belly getting in the way, getting some iron supplements, peeing every 10 minutes.  We are so thankful for a healthy baby and a healthy pregnancy!

Here are a few pictures we recently took:

I’m off to see if I can clean up my toe-nails, we will see if I can reach!

postcards from the road

A few highlights from our trip…

Guillermo climbed Long’s Peak with my dad- North Face/cable route!  They had a beautiful day with not a cloud in the sky

We got to see beautiful aspen trees

We spent time with the Kim family in San Jose, CA

We saw my Grandpa and Great Uncle, whom I hadn’t seen in quite a while.

Farmhouse where my great-great-grandfather was born in Hollister, CA

We from San Jose, down Highway 1, stayed in Morro Bay and ended up in Ventura to stay with the Hodges (no pics with them, sad)

We stayed with Guillermo’s aunt and uncle in Sierra Madre, CA

a record of events

Pictures coming soon, but for now, here is our whirlwind of a week since I last blogged:

Tuesday: work and then a dinner party at Guillermo’s boss’s house for their team (they are our neighbors and friends from church)

Wednesday: work and then dinner with Guillermo’s small group (teenage boys from Los Pinos) at Pizza Hut.  Traffic was horrible and Guillermo got out way late from a meeting, which means I got to hang out with them for a while and eat bread sticks while we waited.

Thursday: Guillermo worked at the office and I worked from home.  In the morning I went for a walk and had breakfast with some other ladies from our church who live close.  It was great-minus that I got covered in ticks which have been biting and itching all week!  In the evening we went on a surprise last minute date with Anibal and Yadira because Yadira was in town for some errands.  We were going to see a movie but ended up going to dinner instead because that night was the premier of New Moon!

Friday: I had a very short day of work because they were fumigating our office area.  I met up with Yadira for a day of girls shopping-something I haven’t done in a long time.  I picked up some crocks for Guillermo and some new juice glasses.  It was fun but tiring, I hope I don’t have to go to the mall again in December.  In the evening, we went to dinner at our friend’s Charlie and Jenny’s house.  They live far away, so it was another late night.

Saturday: We were up early, me for cooking and Guillermo for soccer.  I made sweet potato casserole with marshmallows and a big apple pie with a crumble top.  We at a quick lunch and then headed down the hill for youth group.  I didn’t go because I had a year end board meeting for work.  After that, we went to the Christmas dinner for our small group (hence the cooking).  It was great fun and we even had the treat of live music.  Several in the group are very talented or professional musicians.  With the addition of Tio Bill, who plays the flute and sax, we had live Jazz and Christmas music.

Sunday: Church, rest and oh wait, more soccer for Guillermo.  Do you see a pattern here?

The good news is that I didn’t have to cook dinner or lunch all week!  It was a rich week with friends and we feel very blessed.

This week is quiet.  Guillermo is away for work until Thursday and I have normal days at the office.  Last night my usual good night call didn’t come until I was asleep.  The culprit, soccer, despite a pending cold and tiredness from all the nights of staying up.

Monday afternoon in pictures

Do you know what this is?  The beginnings of juice…

Our one and only Christmas decoration

Our 2000 piece puzzle hasn’t made it very far.  Don’t you like our new table?  Made from one big tree in Olancho.

Brownie cupcakes with peanut butter frosting.  I’m using restraint to not try one until after dinner.

Bundled up for a walk- it is cold.

I’ll do the dishes later.

Flame of the Forest, on the ground.

November moon.

“Skreeches to a halt”

Ivy at the nice house.

Re-doing the church

Clouds in the mud.

I’ve always wanted to take a picture of these when we drive by.

Where we live.

Local flower market.

Fading beauties.

The flower lady is kind of mean sometimes.

PS-I have a lovely bunch of these Cala Lilies on my bedside table thanks to the husband!

our newest addition

We each have our own “project savings accounts”.  Guillermo got a guitar this weekend and has been playing it non-stop.  Lucky for me he is pretty good, even in his beginning stage.  I’m saving up for a sewing machine!

weekend with friends

We have had a good weekend, that would be great, but I have had a horrible cold.  I got a bad cold last Tuesday and today it is finally getting better.  Friday night we had our small group at our house.  10 for soup, bread and apple spice bars makes a cold night warm.

Saturday Guillermo played soccer for an hour or so and I rested and got ready for our next guests.  The Yanes (Anibal, Yadira, Abigail and Jose Anibal) are our good friends.  Guillermo and Anibal work together.  We have spent a weekend at their house and so this was their turn to visit us.  We had Mexican enchiladas for lunch and Saturday and also a little scavenger hunt for the kids.  Later they went to a birthday party while we went to youth group.  On Saturday night we went to a concert of the Honduran Philharmonic Symphony downtown.  I don’t have pictures from Saturday because I was too sick to think about much else.  Sunday we slept in, had a nice big breakfast and then walked all over the Hatillo before we had lunch and they headed home.
